Laptop grading/condition

We try to accurately describe the condition of our  laptops so you know what to expect and are not disappointed. If we have inaccurately described any of our laptops we will be happy to exchange it for a different laptop. We want you to be satisfied with your purchase.

Brand New

Brand new and unused in a sealed box (may have been opened due to stock label being placed on laptop only). New laptops come with the manufacturer's warranty which can vary from 3 months to 3 years, depending on model.

Unused (cancelled orders)

This is product which has been returned to the manufacturer for a variety of reasons including cancellation and specification changes.

All products have been tested and repackaged to the manufacturer factory standards and come with a full manufacturer Service Pack (usually 12 months or 3 years)

Used

Most of our used laptops have been used by large corporate companies since new and they have been professionally maintained. Any parts which are found to be faulty during our tests are replaced with used or new parts. Any external parts which are badly cracked or scuffed are normally replaced. We sell these as Grade A or Grade B (see below).

Refurbished

These are used laptops which have been professionally refurbished. In most cases the external parts which tend to get marked or scratched the most (like the lid and keyboard surround) have been replaced. These parts look like new and although there will still be some signs of use the laptop will generally look in extremely good condition. These are all Grade A (see below).

Grade A

A  laptop with this grading will be in very good condition for it's age but more specifically the various components will be as described below:

Screen

No scratches, chips or scuff marks on glass. It has no dead pixels and the picture does not have “screen burn”. The screen has the correct level of contrast and brightness consistent with its age. It does not have an unusually large number of light or dark patches which affect the picture quality.

Case

There are no cracks in the outer case, screen, keyboard or drive surrounds (apart from some minor hairline cracks). All the coating on the case eg. rubber, silver is present apart from very minor scratches. There are no security badges or remnants of security badges on the outer casing, keyboard or screen surround.

There may be scuff marks or minor scratches on the outer casing which is normal for a used/refurbished laptop. Flaps covering some ports may be missing which is also normal for used/refurbished laptops.

Keyboard

This does not have excessive wear, for example, letters which are heavily worn and can hardly be recognised. It is normal for there to be some signs of wear on the keys eg. part of a small of letters worn off.

Battery

We would expect the battery to charge properly and to hold at least 1 hour's charge during normal operation eg. typing or surfing the net NOT playing DVDs/CDs.

The battery should hold a full charge overnight.

Grade B

A used laptop with this grading will be in fair condition for it's age but more specifically one or possibly two of the components will be as described below. It is unusual for a laptop to have multiple issues. Please look at the description of the laptop for sale or email/telephone for the specific reasons why we have graded it as Grade B. Please bear in mind that we are quite thorough about our grading so we grade a laptop as B usually when there is one minor issue preventing it from being graded A. Please see the description of the laptop for the exact blemishes.

Screen

There may be a scratch, chip or scuff mark on the glass. It may have one or two dead pixels and the picture may have minor “screen burn”. The screen may not have the correct level of contrast and brightness consistent with its age. It may have an unusually large number of light or dark patches which affect the picture quality.

Case

There may be a crack in the outer case, screen, keyboard or drive surrounds. Some of the coating on the case eg. Rubber, silver may be removed. There may be a security badge or remnants of a security badge on the outer casing, keyboard or screen surround.

Keyboard

This may have excessive wear, for example, letters which are heavily worn and can hardly be recognised.

Battery

The battery may be missing, unable to charge or hold a charge for more than a few minutes or is just generally unreliable.
