Demiforce Trism puzzle game
Demiforce is working on a neat puzzle game specifically designed to take advantage of iPhone’s and iPod Touch’s touch screen and tilt sensor. The game is called Trism and Demiforce is working hard to make a demo version available in short time. Trism is a puzzle game that involves matching triangles of similar colors in certain configurations similar to other puzzle games. What makes Trism interesting is that once matched blocks are removed, the other blocks fall in place depending on the direction that the iPhone is tilted. The multi-touch and tilt interface is certainly taking full advantage of Apple’s device and I expect this game to be a hit once released. The only restrictive requirement at the moment is that the game is only playbale on iPhones that have been unlocked with Jailbreak. Demiforce has explained that they will make a version that works with all devices available as soon as Apple releases the official iPhone SDK .

Philips toaster HD2618
For the working masses who don’t have sufficient time in the morning to prepare and eat a good breakfast, Philips has a solution that is sleek and efficient. The HD2618 toaster boasts 1200W of power to go with its anodised aluminium frame and digital controls. This toaster is probably more powerful than any other that I have ever seen but if you want your toast done quickly then this toaster is for you. The aluminum frame is corrosion resistant, scratch proof, and fingerprint resistant while the built-in LCD screen counts down the seconds before your toast is ready. I couldn’t find pricing information on the product web site but who cares about the cost when you can have your bread toasted perfectly in no time.

Kiddo KidKeeper
For those parents who obsess over the safety of their kids, the Kiddo KidKeeper can provide momentary peace of mind. What is Kiddo? It is a proximity alarm that has two pieces. One is attached to the child and the other stays with the parent or guardian. When the child moves more than 4 meters away an alarm sounds to alert the parent; another alarm also goes off when the kid is more than 8 meters away. The makers of Kiddo are the Portuguese research and development company Smart Target. This surprised me since I expected the Kiddo to be a North American invention considering how parents obsess over the safety of their children in this part of the world. If you don’t have any kids yet, then don’t fret because you can still use the Kiddo KidKeeper. The device is good for monitoring adults with mental disabilities such as Alzheimer’s and even pets.

UCCTOP Xeno
How would you like to have your own personalized international channel (whatever that means?) How about just some decent quality video editing and live broadcasting equipment in an oversized laptop design? If the latter is what you seek then the UCCTOP Xeno is the right device for you. According to the product site, the Xeno is designed for filming, editing and broadcasting all in one package. The Xeno comes with a 4-channel video switcher, 6-channel audio mixer, and ability to control external devices such as cameras. As you can tell from the photo to the right, the Xeno has a keyboard specifically designed to accommodate video editing and broadcasting. I am not into filming and video editing but I doubt that anyone but a few amateurs will decide to purchase the Xeno. Professionals will continue to use higher-end equipment which might not be portable but gets the job done at the quality necessary.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots PS3 bundle
Sony announced yesterday that they will start selling a PlayStation 3 bundle that will include the much anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the patriots game and a DualShock 3 controller for $499 no later than the second quarter of 2008. If you were waiting for a reason to purchase a PS3, now you have two. The first is of course Blu-ray winning the format war over HD DVD and the second is no doubt getting your hands on MGS4 along with your new game console for a price that beats buying the console alone. To put this in perspective, the 40GB PS3 alone will cost you $399 on Amazon. Similarly, the DualShock wireless controller costs an additional $55 and MGS4 another $70. The bundle which comes with an 80GB PS3, the controller and the game costs $25 less. Not exactly huge savings but nothing to laugh at. Expect the PS3 to have a great 2008 over rival game consoles.

Hitachi Travelstar 5K320
Hitatchi announced today that they will start shipping the Travelstar 5K320 HDD for portable computers. The new drive has a maximum 320GB capacity and built-in data encryption capabilities. The 2.5-inch, 5400 rpm, SATA drive can also sustain 400Gs of shock protection. Just to make sure that we all understand what the latter means, the 5K320 can continue to operate flawlessly under accelerations that are 400 times that of the acceleration at sea level on Earth (1G). It sounds like a touch of over-engineering but who am I to judge? Other than the shock protection, the HDD also comes equipped with altitude-sensing Thermal Fly-height Control and “the Phoenix FailSafe theft-deterrence service, PC owners can track, remotely disable and securely erase the hard drive.“ Anyone with lots of sensitive data to protect and making the mistake of storing said data on a laptop then he better invest in one of Hitachi’s Travelstar 5K320; he won’t regret it!

What can one expect from a small form factor hard drive pioneer such as Toshiba anything else other than even smaller devices? Not much other than announcing two new 1.8-inch SATA hard drives. Toshiba says and one expects that the new and very tiny HDDs will find their way inside ultra-portable devices offering the high performance of their 2.5-inch series of SATA hard drives. The Everex gPC will cost $499 when it goes on sale next month.
